The remote herder households in the Tsenkher and Bulgan soums of Arkhangai aimag, selected for the project, have limited access to resources, information, and training. These soums also have large livestock populations, with livestock products like wool and cashmere serving as the primary source of income for herder households. This widespread livestock raising contributes to pasture degradation, which in turn impacts both climate change and local livelihoods.
Project goal
The project aims to strengthen the leadership, participation, and climate change adaptation skills of women herders in the targeted soums, while also contributing to the implementation of national and local livestock and herder-oriented policies and plans.

Although this is a small-scale project and may not directly incentivize herders to reduce their livestock numbers, it is effectively implementing two strategic plans that support climate change adaptation efforts in the community.
-
To increase the yield and quality of livestock products by sharing successful experiences and solutions from other communities on sustainable pastoral management with local pastoralists. It will also promote responsible livestock farming practices, animal-friendly conditions, and adherence to hygiene standards.
-
To empower pastoral women to adapt to climate change and navigate new economic challenges, while supporting them as active representatives in decision-making processes at the household, community, and administrative levels.
